Building A Monument : CITY-STATE

Monument is the second disc, and first full length from Washington DC's CITY-STATE and follows up their critically lauded 2006 EP, Wolves + 4. CITY-STATE's sound is dramatic soaring vocals on a foundation of dark rhythmic drums and bass, surrounded by epic reverb laden guitars and keyboards. Like the contemporaries such as Interpol, British Sea Power and Coldplay they cite as influences, they too create an updated version of the Joy Division/U2/Cure influenced sound of late 80's bands such as The Church,The Mighty Lemondrops, or The Catherine Wheel.

The production on the disc is top notch and complements the songs beautifully. The intricate soundscapes they create here have an elegant yet massive sound. I could easily picture them playing these songs to a stadium full of people under the stars.

CITY-STATE is:
Jim Anderson - vocals, guitar
Matthew Kalinowski - guitar, keys, vocals (on album)
Forrest Yingling - guitar (replaced Matthew after recording)
Daryl marco - bass, keys
Joao Malhinha - drums, percussion
